Who is perfect for this apartment ?
Any single traveler or couple who value the tangible remnants of Paris’s long, rich history and the creature comforts of a fully renovated, highly functional, air conditioned space.

Why do I love this apartment ?
It has the rare combination of a beautiful view and quiet calm in a less busy corner of the Marais, while being only a stone’s throw from a major Metro line. Wonderful restaurants and shops are steps away, and when you are home, the apartment envelops you in comfort and that indescribable Parisian sunlight.

Location : The Marais, oldest and most colorful neighborhood in Paris. This apartment has an unobstructed view of the Seine and the île Saint Louis, and is just a block from Métro Line 1, providing easy access to most of the city's historic monuments, from the Bastille Opéra to the Louvre to the Champs Elysées.

Description : On the fourth floor, with elevator, of a late nineteenth century building, this centrally air-conditioned (!) 31 square meter (336 square feet) apartment is bathed in light from three large south-facing windows. Antique oak floors have been lovingly restored, and the kitchen and bath are finished with elegant porcelain tiles which echo the pale hues of a seventeeth century Parisian limestone wall, a portion of which is exposed in a decorative niche. There is more than adequate storage for luggage and clothing making the apartment comfortable and practical for a stay of any duration. Decoration and furnishings include raw silk drapes with sheers, comfortable sofa-bed to accomodate a third person, dining table and chairs with seating for four, and a writing desk with hi-speed computer connection. Built-in niches at the head of the bed are equipped with switches for reading lamps and room lighting, and a digital alarm clock. This spacious apt is comfortable, charming, private, and quiet; yet within a few moments walk from the Seine & busy Paris streets. Bright light & fresh air fills the apt from tall windows, opening over a quiet street. The bath & kitchen are modern in every aspect and the apt has the most comfortable bed I know in all of Europe!

The booking was easy, efficient; and during our stay, our concierge, Mathias, was responsive and helpful, even though it was during the Christmas holiday.

We felt like we belonged to Paris in this great space. Each time we opened the gate leading from the quiet, private courtyard to the bustling Rue Saint-Paul, it gave us the magical feeling that we had just stepped onto a French movie set: "scene one, take two, action!"

The Metro, bus line, Starbucks, bistros, shops were all with a few minutes walk from the apt.

Our only regret was that we had to leave. We look forward to another stay in the not-too-distant future.

We enjoyed a wonderful, if a little too short (3 nights), stay at this studio apartment in October 2015. From my first contact through our departure, everything was handled promptly and efficiently. Both the owner in the US (Jim) and the concierge in Paris (Mathias) were responsive and helpful and very pleasant to deal with.

The apartment itself was quite comfortable and as pictured. It is very spacious for two people (at least twice the size of the hotel we paid twice as much for on our return to Paris), well furnished with plenty of seating and spotlessly clean, filled with light but still private (it felt bright even though it was cloudy most of the time we were there), has a large and comfortable bed, and is very quiet despite its central location. Everything you need, from a Metro stop to shops and restaurants, is steps away.

All-in-all it was a perfect place/experience for our short stay and I think would be an excellent choice for a longer visit as well. We would defintely stay here again and recommend it (or another place managed by this owner) to friends.

We stayed at the Voltaire recently and it was wonderful. It was a terrific apartment with all the amenities we needed. The location is perfect and it was very close to the Bus and Metro. Marc and all the property management team were very helpful and always available for any questions we had. I would stay again and would recommend any of the apartments that are available.

My husband and I have stayed in Charlemagne three times--that is how wodnerful this studio is. We are quite self-sufficient when we have been in Paris staying in this lovely studio flat, but knowing that we can contact Marc or Matthias is reassuring. Jim is great to deal with and having Jose transport us to and from the airport is perfect. Everything from the furnishings to the modern appliances and fixtures help us to have an ideal "home base" in Paris! The neighborhood is quite charming and convenient for either walking or taking the Metro.
We love it!

My wife and I had a LOVELY stay at this apartment over New Year’s.

The layout and furnishings were cozy and comfortable. The kitchen it small but efficient and frankly, we only used it for coffee and to store our cheese purchases.  The windows let in the most gorgeous light at all times of the day. Just beautiful. The storage for clothing and suitcases was so nice – we were able to put everything away so that every time we walked back into the apartment, it felt like home, not a hotel room.

Loads of good eats nearby including Miss Manon down the road for baked goods/breakfast / Café Favorite for basically everything – breakfast, lunch, snacks, late night cocktail. La Mangerie is an AWESOME tapas restaurant about 5 minutes away and Chez Josephine was a lovely bistro for lunch in a nearby square. The options are endless.

Tourism-wise it’s easy to get to EVERYTHING. 5-7 minute stroll to Notre Dame, slightly longer walk (or EASY quick metro) to the Louvre/Tulieries/Centre Pompidou and many of the other “must sees”.

The concierge Marc was great too. He met us right at the apartment when we arrived and had loads of helpful tips.

As soon as we can find the time, we WILL be back.

Cozy and well-appointed apartment in the best neighborhood. Too many cheese shops, boulangeries and roasted chickens to count, the back entrance of the building brings you right to the metro, 15 minutes walk from so many must-sees and must-dos in Paris. Marc is fantastic and every aspect of our stay was just perfect. Can't wait to go back!

Comment by Brenda (New York City)

A charming apartment in a lovely neighborhood with a view that looks like a postcard. Just a few blocks away from a cheese shop, wine shop and several bakeries. Marc, the concierge was just great. I want to go back to my home away from home tres bientot!

From soup to nuts, this rental was terrific. The deposit and payments were handled quickly and efficiently, as was every aspect of our stay. The apartment was beautiful, in pristine condition -- comfortable bed, crisp linens -- and well equipped. The concierge met us to show us around and was available for questions. There was a thorough handbook describing everything from what to do with trash to where to find great bakeries. This stands out as one of the finest vacation experiences we have ever had! Btw, the little cafe downstairs is wonderful! Extremely friendly, excellent food and wine and very popular and lively.
The listing was very accurate and the location was superb.
We hope to return some day!

I couldn't have imagined a better location, apartment, or concierge than this! One block from public transportation, waking up to the bells of Notre Dame, and the largest "studio" apartment I've ever experienced that felt like home. Truly a priceless experience because of their attention to detail and comfort. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Paris!

Comment by Traveling Therapist (Atlanta, GA)

The studio was beyond our expectations. We were exhausted from flying all night. Marc the concierge met us at the apartment and truly made us feel welcome. I felt like I had arrived home. There were restaurants, fruit and vegetable markets, and at one bakery within walking distance. Thank you Marc for taking care of us during our stay.

I can't agree more with the reviews I have read. This apartment is perfectly located and appointed. There isn't a thing you will wish for. If it rains, there's an umbrella. If its too sunny and you're headed to Versailles, grab a sun hat from the closet. While you could cook a fairly gourmet meal in the small kitchen, you won't want to with all the great places to eat close by. Everyone talks about the bistro downstairs so I will tell you about La Favorite on Rue du Rivoli (just outside the back gate). It makes the more heavenly hollandaise for their eggs Benedict and its open late for a drink or dessert and coffee if you are stumbling off the St Paul Metro at 1:00 and would like a bite or a nightcap.

The bed was the most comfortable bed we slept in while in Europe. After a long overseas flight, we rallied as best we could to stay up all day, but needed a quick nap before heading out to a late dinner. I didn't think we'd ever get up again! It was like sleeping on a cloud.

The tall windows are great for bringing in light and fresh air. Truth be told, it can get noisy on the street at all hours, so you are best to leave them closed if you are trying to nap. Brilliant idea was installing a frosted window on the wall shared by the kitchen and bath. It provides much needed light to the kitchen and gives the apartment a bigger feel, without compromising privacy.

Lots of closet space, room under the bed for suitcase storage, plenty of hangars and such in the closets. The washer/dryer combo is a bit of a challenge. Much smaller than we are used to in America and I'm a fan of hanging dry something's and this machine makes that pretty impossible unless you have a degree in mechanical engineering, however, it comes with very thorough, step by step instructions for basic use.
It was great to be able to do a load of laundry before heading off to London.

Lastly, the location is superior for the Right Bank. While the Left has its own benefits and attractions, if you have never been to Paris and are visiting the "usual" spots, you will find them all quite easy to access on the Metro lines served by the St Paul station. You can't also walk a short way to another stop just over the Seine and access the Left Bank lines easily. La Marais is charming and there are so many nooks and crannies you can spend a good part of your time here easily.

I hope to return to Paris one day soon and will definitely stay here again. The staff is wonderful as well.

Although we have travelled much of this world, this was our first trip to Paris and we speciiifically sought a location near the Seine and in an apartment environment. The Voltaire seemed to fit the bill. The reviews seemed to be overstated, but the fact that there were no negative comments influenced our decision.

After spending seven days at the apartment our conclusion is that there is nothing negative to say. Every thing we read in the reviews was true. It was a great location and a very comfortable apartment with a dependable elevator. The rental process went by the numbers, transportation was there as scheduled and a Concierge, Marc, was always available with a solution when needed (like when our luggage didn't arrive when we did). A definite plus was the small bistro on the street level that served wonderful food.

If you read the rest of these reviews, they'll seem to be too good to be true. However hard to believe, they are true.

We had a splendid week in Paris and are so happy we selected the Charlemagne studio. We were delighted by the location, amenities, and outstanding personal touches by the concierge and the chauffeurs. We look forward to a future stay and would highly recommend this accommodation. Vive Charlemagne!!

Amazing, charming and romantic! This was my first time in Paris and what a wonderful place for our honeymoon. From booking to departure this studio was the best choice. Location fantastic steps away from the Metro, Food store, and Restaurants not to mention the view. Mathias was fabulous, his recommendations of restaurants and river cruise was spot on. He made our stay even more enjoyable than we ever could have imagined. The apartment was just the right size for two. Kitchen and bathroom updated beautifully even a towel warmer. Washer and dryer a big plus. Also the building has an elevator small but better than walking up 4 floors at the end of a long day. This unit has absolutely nothing missing. Thank you all so very much for everything Audey, Rick, Jim, and most of all Mathias. We hope to return very soon

The Rue Charlemagne apartment is perfect for two persons. Clean, light and airy, all of the appliances work well and are easy to use. It is also quite a romantic room. The concierge, Mathias, is really great. I could not recommend the place more.

My wife and I stayed here for 8 days on our honeymoon. It's a lovely little apartment, ideally situated for many of the key sites and destinations of Paris (many are within walking distance, and the Metro stop is right outside the back door). Everything is functional and comfortable, and much nicer than a hotel room! Everyone we dealt with (Jim, Audey, Matthias, and Victor) were extremely courteous, helpful and professional, and Jim dealt with the one issue we had in a prompt and gracious manner.

This apartment is FANTASTIC. Steps from subway, the siene, everything you'd want or need. Very light and bright with lovely views of Paris. Jim supplies everything you could possibly need: from a safe, to a nice umbrella, to guidebooks and extra blankets. There's WIFI and a flat screen TV and a totally lovely kitchen and bath. We LOVED it. Couldn't have been a more perfect getaway. The concierge service made the whole transition flawless. Thank you, thank you! We will be back!!!

Studio Charlemagne is a sweet & cozy apartment; I actually think it is much prettier in person w/it's soft hues & beautiful lighting - just perfect for a couple. The view both day & night was really beautiful. There is even a lovely wine bar w/very friendly staff on the 1st floor - which is really fun to 'come home to' after a long day on your feet. You can leave your Paris books at home; there is a little library of travel bks in the apt. The washer/dryer worked great for me as I was living out of one carry on for a week in Europe! What stands out the most though would be Jim's staff. From booking (Audey) to departure; everyone was SO helpful (we were sorta nervous Paris 1st timers) Marc was fantastic. Hope to be back sooner than later.

This is our 4th year staying in the Marais, the first time at the Charlemagne. Location is excellent, the property and management of it are superb and set a standard for how all apartments should be managed. Thank you, we'll be back.

We had a wonderful time. It is a terrific apartment, and a wonderful location. We only wish we could have stayed longer. The best vacations are always that way. We will definitely be back. The apartment exceeds all expectations.

I could not have been happier. The location was perfect, so close to the metro and to the bakeries and shops in the Marais. We could walk to Notre Dame every morning, and come back to the apartment for a picnic dinner. It was a perfect location for a parisian vacation. I am spoiled forever.

Our recent stay in Studio Charlmagne was fabulous. The location is perfect, right in the middle of everything that's happening on rue St. Antoine, yet with all the quiet and privacy one could wish for. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We recommend this apartment without hesitation, and would love to stay here again on our next trip to Paris.
