My wife and I have been to Paris many times and always stay in apartments. It’s really the only way to go if you want to have the opportunity to pretend you’re Parisian. This little beauty on rue des Francs Bourgeois was terrific! We were there for three weeks and could easily have stayed three months. The location is great, just on the edge of the Marais. So you’re close to all the things you’ve read about … restaurants, shops, etc. … but go a block or two in the opposite direction and there’s not a tourist in sight. The apartment itself is a typical Parisian one-bedroom. The furniture’s comfortable. The bedroom’s on a quiet inner courtyard for a good night’s sleep. The place is stocked with everything you’ll need to enjoy your visit, from cool CDs to books to kitchen utensils. It’s very clean and well cared for, with weekly cleaning service provided. Jim Braude is always a real pleasure to work with as are the concierges, Mathias and Marc. If you’re not familiar with Paris they’ll help you navigate, whether it be restaurant reservations or the language barrier. Any negatives? Be prepared to climb two flights of twisty, uneven wooden stairs. (But your legs will be so much stronger when you leave.) Also, the kitchen may seem a bit small for serious cooking. (But you’ll manage and it’s so much fun.) And finally, you may not want to go back home.

We had a lovely time. We enjoyed the location immensely and found it very easy to get around the city. Also, Matias was a very pleasant and knowledgeable resource during our stay. Thank you for making your home available to us.

We stayed in this wonderful apartment for 3 nights in late March 2010. The location is unbeatable for exploring Paris either by foot or metro. One block to the beautiful Place de Vosges, 10 minutes walk to Notre Dame, 5 minutes walk to St Paul metro. Lots of restuarants nearby if you choose to eat out, and plenty of wonderful food shops near St Paul metro if you choose to eat in the apartment. The entrance is very secure, but the very steep spiral stairs may not suit someone with a mobility problem. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. The bedroom - with a very comfortable bed - is at the back of the apartment and very quiet. Matthias, our concierge was very helpful and was there to meet us on arrival - just what we wanted after a very long flight from Australia. I would recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to feel they are truly in Paris and living like a Parisian... just take care on the steep stairs!! Sue & Hans Melbourne, Australia

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

My husband & I have just returned to our Normandy home after a long weekend in the big city! The apartment was a home away from home and perfect for our needs. Ideally situated in the heart of the Marais within walking distance of museums, galleries, shops & restaurants. We were met at the apartment by the concierge who was extremely helpful with restaurant recommendations and other information. There is more than enough to see & do in the Marais, but the St Paul Metro station is close by and it is very easy to make your way to the centre of Paris for more touristy sightseeing and nightlife should you want to.

Two of us stayed four nights in August. We found our way to the hotel on our own using a map, at night, on the Metro, from the train station after traveling from London. We barely needed help from the hotel staff but it was nice to know they were there if necessary. They recommended a tour company which we used for one evening. Another trip we arranged in advance before we got to Paris. Both tours were willing to pick up and drop off at the hotel or the apartment. Everything else we did on our own and it was easy. There were numerous shops, grocers, restaurants, historic buildings, and a Metro station all within walking distance of the apartment. We found a restaurant listed in a guide in the apartment and had one of the best meals of our lives at le Dome du Marais, right down the street. Although it was quite hot while we were there, we were comfortable with a few windows open and fans blowing at night. It wasn't noisy at all, except a few mornings when some younger children were playing in their apartment across the courtyard...not a big deal. Some of the streets were closed off on the weekend so people were walking around, there was live music down the street, and it was very festive. We came and went from the apartment at all hours on the day and night and always felt very safe.

This is our fifth trip to Paris and we have stayed in apartments the last three times. This is our second time staying in one of Jim's places and again, it was a superb vacation. Living in an apartment is THE only way to experience Paris. You just can't beat shopping at the local fromagerie, wine shop, and boulangerie and coming back to enjoy it all in your own private hideaway. We've stayed in the Marais before and couldn't wait to return to the neighborhood. It can be a bit touristy, but there is definitely also a homey quality about the side streets. The apartment on rue de Francs Bourgeois was a lovely place...the perfect size for a couple and anyone who is nervous about the whole apartment experience, will be comforted to have the help of the staff at the Hotel Saint Louis Marais. You'll be amazed how the place opens up once you climb the small and winding staircase. The kitchen, bathroom, WC and bedroom were quite adequate and the cathedral ceiling in the living room made this third floor home feel very spacious. The bedroom closet was large and easily accessible. The living room furniture was very comfortable and we just loved relaxing here in the early evenings before dinner with wine and cheese while listening to the crowds still bustling on the street. The temperatures outside were fairly hot when we were there in late June/early July (mid-eighties), but the fan, combined with the cross breeze from all the windows, really helped and we were able to sleep just fine. The street is definitely busy and noisy until the shops close, but that's part of the fun of the city...looking out and seeing what everyone is doing and sitting in the living room listening to the hustle bustle. We quite enjoyed that part of it. The bedroom is in the back of the apartment on the courtyard and with the windows and the bedroom door closed, the street shouldn't bother you during sleeping hours. You can't ask for a better location. Only a few minutes by foot to the grocery store, butcher and cheese shops and the Saint Paul or Bastille Metro stops. A ten minute walk brings you to Notre Dame, Ile Saint Louis and the Latin Quarter. And the Marais is just filled with small restaurants that the somewhat colorful locals flock to. You will want to bring your own alarm clock, wine and/or champagne bottle toppers and face cloths if these items are ones you would use. Also, throw in a co

Jim, Thank you! Our entire visit went perfectly. Ayman was wonderful - he met us at the airport with our name on a sign and took us immediately to the apt and then helped us with our bags. We loved staying in the Marais neighborhood. Once we got over the shock of the steep stairs leading to the apt., we absolutely loved our little "nest". Everything we needed was there. The goosedown sofa and chairs were extremely comfortable, the heaters worked efficiently, and there was plenty of hot water available. The kitchen was stocked with all necessary utensils, (paper towels would have been nice). Ayman even remembered to call us the day before our departure to ask if we needed a lift to the airport. We did not, but appreciated his thoughtful followup. The booking process could not have been easier. We will definitely look forward to reserving with, "ourhomeinparis" again.
