What do I love about this apartment ?

  • Location : just up from metro st paul, you can walk to almost every major attraction, including the Louvre, Musée D'orsay, Île Saint Louis, Nôtre Dame, Picasso Museum and the Bastille.
  • Size : it's one of the largest apartments you can find here - three full bedrooms and huge living room, perfect for a family vacation.
  • Light : if you want a bright, sun-filled space, this is it. Views are terrific, and light floods the apartment at all times of the day.


Who is the perfect guest for this apartment ?

  • Families : the floor plan is particularly good for mom and dad and three or four older children.

  • Two or three couples : this would work as well; we can move the single beds together and create one queen and two doubles.

Welcome to the latest addition to our group: the three bedroom Madame de Sévigné apartment in the Marais.

Location : This is a huge (120 square meter) , bright (windows everywhere), classic (great moldings) elegant French apartment, perched near the roof top (fourth floor) of a typical 1860's Paris Building -- the apartments are so large that there is only one for each floor.

Description : First enter into an elegant reception area, with original herringbone floors and plaster moldings. Then step into your HUGE bright living room and dining room perfect for entertaining a large family. The views are incredible - of the bustling street below, Rue St Antoine, and the baroque church of St Paul, just across from the apartment. 

The master bedroom has a QUEEN (160 cm) sized bed, and brand new ensuite bathroom with shower and sink. This can be separated into two singles if requested.

The second bedroom, with its own fireplace, has two single beds (70 cm) perfect for older kids that refuse to share a bed!

The third bedroom has a double bed (140 cm) ideal for another couple or single guest. These can also be split if needed.

There are two bathrooms, one larger one with two sinks, shower and tub. The second smaller bathroom is the one just off the master bedroom. There is a separate room for the toilet off the main hallway (yes inside the apartment!).

ON THE AGENDA for this apartment :

  • Air conditioning : to be installed this winter, completed no later than March 1. This will be a quiet individual unit air system.
  • Elevator : on the agenda - most likely April 2012 at the earliest. Right now this is a four flight walk, which is manageable if you're fit. The stairs are large, wide and easy to negotiate, unlike older buildings where they are narrow and more difficult for our old guests.

Paris is the world's number one tourist destination for at least a thousand good reasons, but taking a family to the City of Light can pose a financial challenge. After staying in this wonderful apartment I now have a thousand and one good reasons to go to Paris. Besides the Euro saving advantage of renting an apartment, three things stand out from my long list of pleasant memories: LIGHT! It streams in through many large French windows, and being on the fourth floor of an elegant 19th Century building, the second memory is of VIEWS! Directly across Rue Saint Antoine, which is the main historic artery of historic Paris, the magnificent Baroque church of Saint Paul towers over the busy sidewalk and provides a backdrop worthy of grand opera. The sight of Parisian rooftops stretching across the Seine to the south and up rue Saint Antoine to the west or towards the Place de la Bastille to the east made staying home as rich and authentic a Parisian holiday as taking the five minute metro ride up the road to the Louvre. Which brings me to the the third reason for loving this apartment: LOCATION!! Already in the heart of the historic Marais with enough significant sights within a few minutes' walk to keep you busy for weeks, the main Metro line is just diagonally across the street, putting the rest of Paris within easy reach. And to walk out of the Metro after a long day of sightseeing, look up, and see your comfortable home in Paris is a joy. This is definitely a place to come home to, and we will be back!
